Fontys University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1992 by the association of 5 higher education institutions in southern Holland. As a result of this association, Fontys is currently the largest institution of higher education in the country. It has university campuses in Eindhoven, Tilburg and Venlo and offers 28 university degree programs and 9 master programs in English in the fields of information technologies, economics, social sciences, education and public health.
The name of the Fontys University comes from the Latin word "Fons" which means "source". Fontys aims to be an inexhaustible source of knowledge, inspiration, development and innovation for its students. The teaching staff counts approx. 4,000 people. They train over 38,000 students and provide advice to over 15,000 officials from companies and international organizations. University and master programs are taught in the university campuses - a total of 22, mostly concentrated in the South of the Netherlands. The largest Fontys campuses are in Eindhoven, Tilburg, Venlo and Sittard, and the smallest - in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hertogenbosch and Roermond.
