The University was founded in 1891 and is a state university in London, England that specializes in Art, Design, Social Sciences and Human Science studies. It has been part of the University of London for more than 100 years. Goldsmiths University is located in New Cross, densely populated area in the southeastern part of London with significant artistic and music atmosphere.

The Faculty of Arts at Goldsmiths is one of the leading centers in the world for teaching in Art and for practical research. QS World Rankings place the University among the top 5 UK universities for Art, Design, Communications and Media. Goldsmiths is also in the top 25 UK universities for research quality, in accordance with the Research Excellence Framework. In 2017 the Faculty of Media and Communication at Goldsmiths was announced to be 2nd in the UK and 8th in the world for the aforementioned courses.

The University has a few student residential buildings. Room offers vary depending on the type of flat (en-suite or non en-suite) and the duration of the tenancy agreement. Prices vary between £139 and £318 per week. There is a private accommodation option as well.
