Founded in 1992, University of East London is a modern university with a heritage dating back to 1898. Ultra modern Docklands Campus, opened in 2000, is the first new university campus in London in the last 50 years. In the most recent National Student Survey, UEL is highly rated in the overall satisfaction of students in what concerns the following programs: accounting, architecture, civil engineering, electronics and electrical, media studies, politics, psychology and sociology.
Students have 24-hour access, 7 days a week to fully equipped libraries. Docklands library is housed in a next-generation building, equipped with 600 computers. UEL has a free shuttle service between the three campuses.
94% of research at the University of East London is internationally recognized under REF 2014.
The Guardian University Guide table table 2018 has awarded the following awards to the University of East London:

- 2nd place in London for the Architecture program
- 3rd place in London for the Civil Engineering program

- 5th place in London for the Pharmacy program
Currently, the university has invested up to 3 million pounds in offering scholarships to its students.
