The University was founded under the name of "University College of North Wales". It was inaugurated on 18 October 1884 with 10 teachers and 58 students. Until 1893, students received the University of London degree. Currently, about 10,000 students are studying at Bangor spread across the 26 existing faculties. Bangor is ranked 15th in terms of student satisfaction and, according to the "Indepentent" newspaper, the university is among the most affordable places in terms of living standards in the UK.
Bangor Business School ranks 1st in the UK for Accounting, Banking & Finance research programs and is ranked in the Top 15 in the world for Banking Research Papers in Economics since January 2014. 87.7% of the Bangor Business School absentants were employed or continue Postgraduate studies after graduation.
